THE CHURCH IN EPHESUS (REVELATION 2:1-7)

INTRODUCTION:
        A. Tommy Duncan wrote a song called Time Changes Everything.
                1. What was so important yesterday doesn't mean a thing today.
                2. What is important today may mean nothing tomorrow.
        B. How has your relationship to Christ and His church changed?
                1. Everyone begins strong in their relationship with Jesus.
                2. What does the church mean to you today?

1. GOOD QUALITIES OF THE CHURCH IN EPHESUS (REVELATION 2:2-3).
        A. Jesus knows His church.
                1. We are not alone --- Jesus walks among us (Revelation 1:20).
                2. Jesus knows our deeds (Revelation 2:2).
        B. Good qualities of the church in Ephesus (Revelation 2:2-3).
                1. Jesus knew their perseverance --- they continued inspite of trials.
                2. The church in Ephesus couldn't endure evil --- they knew how to live godly.
                3. They tested false teachers --- the wanted to be doctrinally strong.
                4. They hated the Nicolatians --- they hated compromise (Revelation 2:6).

2. HOW THE EPHESIANS FAILED (REVELATION 2:4-7).
        A. Ephesus lost their first love.
                1. Ephesus didn't quit loving --- they just didn't love as they did before (Revelation 2:4).
                2. Do we love Jesus as we did in the past?
        B. What the church in Ephesus needed to do (Revelation 2:5-7).
                1. Remember from where you have fallen (Revelation 2:5).
                2. Repent and renew their love for Jesus (Revelation 2:5).
                3. Listen and overcome (Revelation 2:7).

CONCLUSION:
        A. How would you rate your love for Jesus?
                1. Is your love for Jesus going from hot to cold?
                2. Is your love for Jesus growing stronger?
        B. What do we need to do if our love for Jesus has been growing cold?
                1. Listen to what the Spirit has to say.
                2. Repent, come as we stand and sing.
