INTRODUCTION:
        A. We often need someone to stand beside us in times of trouble.
                1. We need someone to stand beside us when we are sick.
                2. We need someone to stand beside us when we are facing death.
        B. Jesus is our advocate who stands beside us.
                1. These things were written that we do not sin, but we do sin.
                2. We have an advocate who stands between us and God (1 John 2:1-2).
                3. Jesus is our advocate, and the one is our propitiation.

1. OUR ADVOCATES DEFENSE OF US.
        A. Our advocate always stands beside us.
                1. Jesus is always with us (Matthew 28:20).
                2. Jesus is our advocate.
        B. How does Jesus plead our case before God?
                1. Jesus pleads for us because of the love of God.
                2. Jesus pleads for us based on His own righteousness that is imparted to us.
                3. Jesus pleads for us because we are God's elect (Romans 8:33-34).

2. JESUS IS OUR PROPITIATION FOR OUR SINS.
        A. Jesus is the propitiation for our sins.
                1. The word propitiation means a satisfaction. God is satisfied with the work of Jesus at Calvary.
                2. Not all will benefit from the work of Jesus (Matthew 7:21-23; Luke 18:13).
        B. Why did God send His Son to be the sacrifice for our sins?
                1. It was God's love that caused Him to act (1 John 4:10).
                2. God doesn't want any to be lost (John 6:37-39).

CONCLUSION:
        A. What must we do to have our sins forgiven?
                1. We need to hear, believe, repent, confess, and be baptized into Jesus.
                2. We must live like Jesus (Romans 8:29-30).
        B. It is God's intention that we do not sin.
                1. Sin shouldn't be a part of our lives.
