What does

the Bible

say about

baptism?

Is it really

necessary?

The Bible speaks quite clearly on the topic of baptism. It is one of the most emphatically commanded & explicitly explained topics in the New Testament. Jesus in giving the great commission says, "he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved". The word in Greek (baptizo) means to "immerse completely", not sprinkle.

Jesus told Nicodemus that "except a man be born again (baptized), he cannot see the kingdom of God". Peter, in Acts 2:38, said to "repent & be baptized". He also said in his epistle the "like figure, baptism doth now save us". There are numerous references to the need for baptism for the remission of one's sins. Paul explains the real & symbolic importance of baptism in Romans 6:3-5.
