how is forward action to be taken
Soul Searching Project 2001(under the umbrella of "forward action") is divided into six sectors which coordinate for several groups. The most important sector is the Evangelism sector. This area is being lead by Frank Nichols. It's focus will be on congregational evangelism, helping members (through classes and workshops) to look for opportunities among those closest to us who need the gospel, and the handling of the usual objections. This sector will include groups such as Home Studies with Prospects; Home Studies with New Members; Visits to Visitors; and the Mailing Tracts & Flyers groups. It will also focus on the congregational "prospect list".
This prospect list is a means of identifying and enjoining family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors to hear the gospel. We hope that each member will make a list of at least five people to focus on in the coming year. They each present challenges for us in our efforts, and the leaders will work with the members to identify and address the various "types" so as to move through each stumblingblock.
The second area of importance will be the Education sector. Johnny Oxendine will oversee the sector, but will utilize the talents of others as coordinators. This sector will be responsible for class study materials, correspondance course materials, developing individual and group study materials, evangelism handbooks (produced internally), and for the reorganization and development of the Library. It will also include getting the helps needed for the members as we evangelize, and to provide both information and study guides that we have made available. This project is intended to bring more members together for a unified goal, but more importantly, it has the purpose of getting us all involved in congregational work.
The third area in the project is the Benevolence sector. This group will handle all of the benevolent needs that the congregation sees as appropriate for this sector. This includes the delivering of food and clothing items to the various shelters in the community. The various visitation needs that arise and transportaion requirements are also groups within this sector, along with the many diverse emergency efforts (childcare, shelter, etc.).
The Maintenance sector is coordinated by Mel Savage and John Watt. They will be responsible for facilitating work in and around the building, This includes internal and external repairs, scheduled cleaning dates at the building, and whatever improvements that might be needed will be reported for discussion.
There are two other sectors that are also important to the work. The Worship Preparation sector and the Congregational Activities sector. Worship preparation includes such basic responsibilities as making sure that communion is prepared, that we are prepared to tape the sermons, taking attendance, informing the men of their responsibilities for the service, and handling the various baptism functions.
The Congregational Activities sector will handle the Monthly Outings scheduling and various activities for the young people. There is also the scheduling of card showers, flowers to the sick, etc.
We hope that all of these will merge together and engage all of the membership as we move with forward action into the new century.
