when is forward action?
This is a good question if we want to establish a time from which this project began. Very early on, in 1997, we began to look at strategies that would enable us to energize the congregation and evangelize the community. It was felt that in order to give some structure to this effort we would need a time frame in which to work.
Since we are in "the next century", and so much attention is being given to the year 2000 for so many other reasons, it seemed the perfect vehicle and time for Soul Searching Project 2001. This "forward action" is a progressive, and assertive attempt to engage all members of the congregation in ways that will allow individuality and creativity.
We want to provide the needed help for a long term evangelism. Therefore, the "when" of forward action is always. We want to achieve a goal by the set date, but we also want to continue in this "carrying out of the commission" as an open- ended activity.
Who can put a date on the end of the effort to evangelism? So, we have begun our move forward into the 2001 project, and will continue to incorporate this has an ongoing and ever-changing mission. The components that are put into place will certainly change or be modified as necessary, but the essence of the program will remain intact - as long as there are Christians in San Mateo.
