Voice:              Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom you love, go to the Land of

Moriah and offer him for a burnt offering.

Scene II

Abraham:         Isaac, my son, let us go up to the mountain and offer a sacrifice to the

Lord.

Isaac:               I’ll get the wood, father.

Abraham:         I’ll call two servants to go with us.

Scene III

Abraham:         We have traveled three days now.  We must be near the place.  You two

servants stay here with the animals.  Isaac, my son, let us go on.  You

carry the wood.  I’ll take the fire and the knife.

Isaac:               Father, we have the wood and the fire, but what about the lamb for the

                        offering?

Abraham:         My son, God will provide the sacrifice.

(Abraham fixes the altar, binds Isaac.  Abraham raises hand with knife.)

Voice:              Abraham!  Abraham!

Abraham:         Here am I.

Voice:              Lay not thine hand upon the lad.  Now I know you fear God for you did

not even keep back from me your only son.

Abraham:         Look, there is a ram in the bushes.  We will offer it to the Lord.

(Abraham looses Isaac, and both go over to the ram.)
