Introduction
The
writer has in mind the sharing of this material with others, hoping
that it may
be helpful in promoting interest and impressing on the participants
the facts of the stories.
These little plays have been written for use of grades three
and four in the Bible
School, but they are adaptable to older or younger ages. As much as possible, the exact wording of the Bible has been
used, thus aiding in Bible memory work.
Very few
suggestions have been given as to costumes, stage settings or
properties. These may
be held to a minimum if used in the class period. If presented to an audience, the teacher may wish to spend
more time on this phase. In either instance, it is recommended that more time be used
on the Bible story itself, as this is the desired end.
Children, particularly grades three and four, are interested
in drama. In order not
to spend a great deal of time
on one story, play reading is very effective.
Memory may be used if the play is to be presented to
visitors.
These plays, like any other method, are only a means to an
end, the end being the teaching of God’s word.
Let it never be said of you as a teacher that this method was
used to “fill in” the class period.
There is so little time available to teach these eager little
folk that we should feel very keenly our responsibilities in using
every minute to the Glory of God and the teaching of His Word to
these YOUNG CHARGES.
It is highly recommended that the teacher who uses these
plays check the wording against the Bible text.
We are responsible to God for teaching the Bible exactly as
it is written.
