The Transfiguration of Jesus

Characters: Peter, John, Jesus, Moses, Elijah, Voice of God

Bible text: Mark 9:2-11

Enter Peter, James, John, and Jesus.

Peter: We are all tired, I’m sure. Let’s sit here and rest for awhile.

Jesus: All right. Let’s do.

(All fall asleep and Jesus goes a bit farther and prays, head in hands. Moses and Elijah appear with Jesus.)

Elijah: The prophets of the Old Law have talked about your being crucified. When will it be, Lord?

Jesus: Elijah, you and the prophets were guided by my Father in this prophecy.

Moses: Lord, you are the One my people have looked forward to for the saving of us all.

Jesus: Yes, Moses, I am He.

(Peter, James, and John rise suddenly.)

James: Who is this I see?

John: There are Moses and Elijah with the Lord.

Peter: Lord, let’s build three tabernacles, one for you, one for Elijah, and one for Moses.

Voice : This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye Him.

(Moses and Elijah disappear)

Jesus: Peter, James, and John, do not tell anyone what you have seen until after I am risen from the dead.

James: Lord, what do you mean?

Jesus: You will understand when the time comes. Now let’s go down from the mountain.

(All leave.)
