In the beginning there was nothing but emptiness, darkness, and very deep water. Then God said the word, and the world was filled with light. God saw that the light was good and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness "night." And there was evening, and there was morning -- the first day.

On the second day, God made an expanse (a large space) and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. God called the expanse "sky."

On the third day, God gathered the water under the sky to one place and the dry ground appeared. God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." God told the land to produce vegetation (plants that produce seeds and trees that produce fruit with seed in it).

On the fourth day, God put lights in the sky to separate the day from the night and to mark the seasons, days, and years. And also to make light on the earth. God made two great lights -- the sun to make daytime and the moon to make nighttime.

On the fifth day, God made all the creatures that live in the water - whales, sharks, dolphins, starfish, and more. Then He made all the birds that fly in the sky - eagles, hawks, robins, doves, crows, hawks, humming birds, wrens, and more.

On the sixth day, God was very busy and made all the animals that live on the land. He made the big animals - elephants, rhinos, lions, tigers, bears, bulls, etc.; and he also made small animals - rabbits, squirrels, turtles, lizards, butterflies, bees, ants, etc. God also made the first man. God then made man; male and female (see the story "The Making of Man and Woman). God made man in his likeness to rule over all the earth. God gave man every seed bearing plant on the earth and every tree that had fruit with seed in it for food, and he gave all the animals that roamed on the land plants for food. God saw all that he had made and it was very good.

On the seventh day, God had finished the work he had been doing; so he rested from all his work on the seventh day. And God blessed the seventh day and made it Holy.
